The Story Behind Kart Racers Speed Shop
In 2017, following my father’s passing, I came across an old box of karting magazines from his racing days in the 60s, and early 70s. As I spent hours flipping through the pages, a flood of cherished memories came rushing back—recollections of the tracks, races, karts, engines, suppliers, and familiar faces from the vibrant karting community.
Karting has always been an integral part of my family’s life. My father, Bob Behrens, actively raced enduros throughout the 1960’s and early 70’s. He served as President of Chain Breakers Kart Club and Race Director for the 1970 IKF Summer Nationals at Indianapolis Raceway Park while my mother always helped score races. After college I raced sprints and enduros in the 1980s and early 90s, while my brother Todd Behrens carried the torch from the mid-80s until his untimely passing in 2007, and our family’s third generation of karting enthusiasts competed in the Purdue Grand Prix in 2017 and 2018. Karting was more than just a sport for us—it was a passion that bound us together and shaped our lives.
To stay connected to my late father and brother’s love for karting, I began reproducing iconic pieces of karting imagery and history as a hobby. What started as a personal project quickly gained interest, and it was suggested that these designs be shared more broadly. The idea was simple yet profound: to give others the chance to relive their own karting memories or showcase their passion for the karts, engines, races, and tracks that fuel their racing spirit.
Since launching Kart Racers Speed Shop, I have been fortunate to meet incredible people, hear amazing stories, and tackle unique projects that celebrate the rich heritage of karting. From my early days racing a Hornet SS with a Mac49 in rookie class at Whiteland Raceway to seeing my brother become a 1998 WKA Enduro National Champion and cheering on my son at the Purdue Grand Prix, karting has left an indelible mark on my life.
Kart Racers Speed Shop is committed to honoring that legacy. We provide kart racers and fans with high-quality gear and apparel featuring unique designs that revive the "Glory Days" of karting while celebrating today’s high-tech, high-speed karting scene. Whether you’re reminiscing about the past or embracing the present, Kart Racers Speed Shop is here to keep the spirit of karting alive for generations to come.
